Unhappy Engine Codes

When ordering parts I was asked what "engine range" the part was for. I have never heard of an "engine range" and have never been asked this before when ordering parts and always got the correct part. Can someone please tell me what this means and where they are located? The choices they gave me were;

-12-078172
-10-030069
12-078173-
10-030070-

I looked everywhere in the engine bay, VIN placard, etc., could not find the above codes or even similar listed anywhere.

Thanks,

Rick

1993 - 190E 2.3
Engine W102.985
Chassis W201.028

The engine number just like the chassis number has 14 numbers.
The 102.985 is the type of engine, w/o the last 8 numbers you might get the WRONG part as many changes have been made since 1985. IF you have books then look in the back of the service book, all of the DATA card info is there including the complete engine number.

Of course since you car is a 1993 it will be the LATEST of the engines made.

No Manuals..........

The only manual I have is the factory manual that came with it, it only lists the engine as 102.985. Is there a web site anywhere that may have info on this subject? Any ideas guys? Thanks

Rick
