M.B. Doc & Benzmac and other 190e 16V owners.
Gentlemen,
Since each of you own or have owned a 16V, have either of you had to replace the EFI computer in your cars or cars you have worked on? Benzmac mentioned this is an old post. There was also mention of a newer (superseded) computer for this car? Anyone have the new part number? Please.. Tiner |
Thats a negative for me. I have a 1986 201.034 model.

I did not replace my computer. I thought about it, but then found the air flow meter as the problem (thanks to Doc).

When these cars were released to the US in 1986 the fuel computer in about 500 of them caused excessive emissions!! MB had a recall to replace them. Most cars lost 4-5 rear wheel HP!
That computer hasn't been avail in the US for over 10 years!! I don't even have the computer hooked up in my racecar. |
Thanks for the feedback.
I talked with the parts guy at the dealer and he indicated that the computer has been superseded with design updates two separate times. I was curious as to whether anyone had experienced problems resulting in replacement. I know it is pretty rare. M.B. Doc, I could understand why the computer would not be needed at WOT, but wouldn`t the part load and idle performance be better with it? Are you still running the factory injection? Tinker |
99% of the time my foot is THRU the pedal, only when I brake(not often) do I let off!!
In SCCA (ITS) the cars are ALMOST stock! So yes the same old CIS fuel system is in place. My engine puts out maybe 185 hp. |
