I was on a long trip this weekend, and while the car is idling, the temperature increases almost to the red zone on the gauge. What is the cause of this? Would a simple flush and fill be the answer to the problem? I did need tp add more anti-freeze when the level was low.

if your 190E is running hot only when you come to a stop, then you need to replace the fan clutch. if your water levels low check for a water pump leak.

The thermostat will fail in this way as well. Sometimes they fail like a light switch and just break. Also be sure that the aux fans are working!!
