My 1990 300E heater fan motor stopped and the preliminary symptoms say motor brushes...not push button control...because there was a period of intermittant operation before failure.

I have heard that one can replace the brushes at a much lower cost than the motor, by going in through the front, under the windshield wiper. Any truth to that hopeful tactic?

The motor is located under the hood beneath the wiper mechanism, it takes about 2.5 hrs. to remove & replace the motor. Stay away from trying to replace just the brushes, the armature & other parts of the motor have just as many hours as the brushes.

I have also seen the blower regulator go faulty. Have it checked under a load.
