Power Steering Pump Rebuild Assistance (please)

2 Attachment(s)
Good Day Everyone!

I am rebuilding the power steering pump from my 1987 300TD wagon (down without a head) to replace the power steering pump in my daily driver (1988 300TE wagon). Both pumps are leaking and I am hoping to minimize my downtime by rebuilding a replacement before removing the one I need daily.

My dilemma is that I am unable to remove the impeller shaft from the housing. I have watched several videos as well as read articles on this site. All refer to the shaft sliding out of the housing easily. Mine is not.

I appear to have several round "covers" on my Vickers pump which do not appear in any images I have found. I am guessing there is something behind the covers which is holding the shaft. I am hoping someone may help me get the shaft removed so I may continue the repair. Help please. :)

Thank You In Advance!

Any idea what tool I need to unscrew those covers?

Thank You!!!

Also, LSmalley, where did you find that image? I would like to know to what the numbers refer. :-)

Thank You!

Nulu,
I am looking for the tool to remove #40. I am not sure if the manual has that tool in the list of tools needed.

Thank You for helping me fix this pump. Have a Great Day!
