W124 engine tapping noise
 
Need help troubleshooting this tapping noise in my 1986 300E 3.0L

Sounds to me that it's coming from inside the cam cover... might be a good idea to remove it to inspect the valve gear. It's pretty simple to remove, but make sure you have a new gasket on hand.
