Question Good CV boots, Can axles still go bad?

Off and on for a month, now mostly on,I am hearing a lowgrade grinding/squishing/ squeaking noise from the wifes 87 300 e with 210k on it, coming directly from the rear driver wheel when it turns at low to medium speeds. I suspect the cv axle, and Ive read many posts that all talk about cracked or torn boots with obvious leaks. The boots are in good shape with no signs of any leaks or grease. Might the axles still have gone bad ? Can the grease dry up internally over time? Thanks for all your imput.

Hello,
Check the rear wheel bearings. With that wheel off the ground, spin it and pull in and out at 12/6 o'clock, there should be no movement.

cv joints

Yes, they can go bad even though the boots are not torn!
