Failure mode of the air flow sensor?
 

Can someone who has replaced or repaired (??) an air flow meter explain the symptoms of a bad one?

I realize that the meter itself (on an late 80`s car) send a 0.6 to approximately 5.0 volt signal to the EFI computer when everything is working correctly.

I assume they fail by developing open circuits? I realize that the meter portion is not extremely exact. How could it be adjusted other than the resting level and the centering of the air flow plate?
