ROOF RACK FOR 92' 300CE...none from yakima/thule :(

HEY Y'ALL

anyone have a line in on any racks available for my w124 300CE? 1992?

thule and yakima both don't have applications for the 2-door w124's....(the bas&ards!!!!).....
ugh...
i have an 8 foot surfboard that i can't get to and from the beach....ugh....and i don't want to use the spongey roof racks cause those cave your roof in...

Mushedroom,
I have a set of thules for my 300E and I work for a thule retailer. They do not make a set of racks for your car, but the 300E rack may work, I had a 280C two door coupe I was told they didnt make a rack for it. So I tried a standard foot at my shop and it worked great....even with a longboard. Most likely the reason they say they dont have one is not because of fit but because they dont want to be held liable for damages that may occur do to small bar spread, because they dont manufacture a SRA (short roofline adapter) for your car. Not saying it will work but if you buy it from a reputable shop They should let you return it, if it doesnt work. Hope this helps.

hey drbrandini,

thanks for the tip...
when i spoke with yakima they told me if i tried the 300E clips, that it was very possible that whatever i had locked down would fly off my car or do damage to my roof, so unfortunately i'm not in the willingness to try, as i would have to do freeway driving and an 8 foot board tends to be quite the wind deflector...

thanks again for the response though...

hey can you get me a discount for a thule rack for my 90' integra?
maybe i'll just use the integra for my surfboard ventures....

I have a an 89 300CE W124 and I just took a couple basic Thule bars, drilled holes to align with the MB threaded rack mounts that are already on the roof line (behind the little doors that open), fitted some spacers and rubber corks as to not damage the roof surface, along with the appropriate length 10 or 12 mm bolts and it works fine. With the bar accessories I put skis, bikes and even a Yakima box up there with 100-200 lb on a 500 mile trip, all with no problems to boot!

wow...
i wish i was that technically inclined...
hmmm
i truly was hoping that there was something out there where it didn't need any customizing...ugh

thanks for the input dan

Mushedroom,
I am sure I can get you a discount I'm not sure if it will be worth it after the shipping charges though :D but let me know when your ready and I'll see what I can do. Also, I am not crazy about soft racks especially at high speeds but you may look into Dakine's new soft rack. It straps onto the car by going into the car with the straps. I'm not sure what I would do but it is another option.
Good luck,
