126 Brake Rotor upgrade

Does anyone know of better rotors and pads that are offered for this series. I understand the OEM rotors wear quickly and are $$.

If $$ plays any part in your decision, stay with what you got. A MB rotor is cheaper than a set of pads for a Lexus. Unless you are buying your rotors from a brake chain your rotors are probably one of the best deals going. They list for $$81 and we would charge 69 plus labor to install one. If you want them over the counter they can be found for a lot less.

One real common problem for MB rotor getting a bad rap is brake chains that install life time rock hard pads that wear out rotors quicker than pads and then they double MB suggested list and give you a set of free pads. BTW the pads would cost $39 from someone using MB suggested list price (not all dealers do).

Rotors and pads for w126 are cheap. I had the front one done on my 420SEL for about $150 Canadaian, at the dealer including labour and tax. I checked my records and the last time they wer done on my car was 5 years and 45,000 miles ago. They last, have great stopping power and are cheap. These are really great brakes, unless you plan on racing I don't know why you would need an upgrade.

One way to extend the life of MB rotors is to be sure to change pads before they're gone and to use ONLY OEM...Pagid, Jurid; Textar and I'm sure there are others. The rock-hard, no-dust types that I believe SteveFl was eluding too will fry the rotor.

Two questions:
(1) are these the "Power Disks" (I think that's their name) that have two continuous slots that's sort of like a triangle? They cross so that you have six curved slots around.
(2) If they are these Power Disks, do you also have them for the W124 ('90 300E)?

Is owned by a man named Randy Steele. He's located in Calif. and is est. on the Ritter-Easley MB list. Alot of folks(present company included) think alot of his quality/prices/etc.

The ATE slotted rotors I saw on that page were for w126 models from 1980-85. Thats when the w126s had 14 inch wheels, I think the brake rotors on the 1986 and later cars (15 inch wheels) are slightly larger than the pre 86 models.

So far I think mt ate's are being eaten quite rapidly. Only on for two months and already vibrating. I barake semi hard at times but expect more from a disk than this. I may end up going back to mb oem. We will see...

If you are not in imediate need, you can get a complete front brake kit from ebay for $120.00 and $7.00 shipping that has these Mercedes part numbers 001 420 99 20 (Pagid pads), 126 421 05 12 (2 Zimmermann rotors), 140 540 12 17 (4 brake wear sensors) and 001 989 10 51 (2 Mercedes brake paste). The pads are OEM from Pagid, meaning they are the exact same pads you would buy at your Mercedes dealer. While there are no available OEM brake rotors on the market, Zimmermann is the finest German rotor available, Porsche guys swear buy them, here is link for an example:
