Final Drive '86 300E vs '92 300TE

Hello, I have an 86 300E and a 92 300TE. The E seems to cruise at 65 at a higher RPM than the TE. Is this my imagination, or do these cars have different final drive or gearing. (It's kinda hard to drive them both at the same time to check for sure!)

Thanks Much

Yes, your 300E should have 3.07:1 and the '92 TE should have 2.87:1. I have a 1990 300E and it has 3.27:1.

Also, your 300E does not have first gear start but your 300TE should have it . . .

Yes, your 300*E* has a different ratio than my wagon. Personally, I'd love to have the 2.87:1 in my wagon for the (assumed) better mileage . . .

Some Euro gearing is different. To be sure , simply get under there and look. All benz diffs are ratio stamped on the casing...

Takes a little scraping to find.
