3rd gear start
Replaced transmission with a reman unit. It starts in third gear and changes really rough at agout 40 MPH into high. Car will not move when shifter is placed in the "2" position. Also no 1st gear whatsoever. It's warranted but still the aggrevation with this thing continues.

As usual I'm going to torment myself and try to straighten it out myself. I have learned through Transonline.com that the modulator pressure is supposed to be set at 58 psi for this unit. My immediate problem is finding a fitting to adapt my pressuse guage to the tranny. The plug measures 8mm. Everywhere I go asking for metric fitting, they look at me and say " They make those?" Anyone know of a good source for metric fittings to adapt to 1/8" npt?

Cap'n - try "Tubes N Hoses" or "Samson Industrial" in Macon. Samson is (478) 784-9700 and ask for Will - he is the tube fitting guy. Tell him Jim sent you.

Well, I just finished the pressure tests. The results were mixed:
Modulator pressure: 58 psi... right on the money Governor pressure : 8 psi @ 30 mph... half what it should be : 16 psi @ 40mph... still low Line or working pressure: 58psi...low again Line pressure @ stall: 80psi...half of the low end of the range I'm trying to get help from the rebuilder but so far they have ignored me. I hope I can get some help! I'm beginning to think I wasn't meant to own a Benz. Last edited by Cap'n Carageous; 07-27-2002 at 09:19 AM. |

Stephen - what size/type fitting is needed? Where did you find them?

The male end of a 1/8" brass compression fitting is the same thread. It measured 7.83mm. I slid a small o ring over it, installed it, put on my safety glasses and held my breath when I started the car. Didn't leak a drop.
