Air cleaner removal???

I have tried several times to remove the air cleaner from the throttle body with out success. I have a 1992 190E 2.6 w201. I removeed two bolts on the left side and one on the right side of the engine. removed the breather tube and vaccuum hose, wiggled the air cleaner and pulled up and nothing comes off. Am I missing something else holding the air cleaner on? Do I need to just pull harder?

Thanks for your help,
Cliff

You should have a similar air cleaner to the 300TE I have (different fuel system, though!). On the TE there is a rubber mount, 10 mm nut, in front, one at the rear, and one on the side toward the driver's side fender. Yours are probably in a different location, but check for them. Always a rubber mount that has a nut holding the air cleaner down.

My old 72 280 SE also has a couple of rubber rings that loop over tabs on the air cleaner lower housing and on the manifold.

Air cleaner Removal

Thanks psfred,

I have removed the 10mm nuts in those three locations. I think I am down to the rubber rings between the air cleaner and the throttle body. How do I release these rings so I can remove the lower portion of the air cleaner? I tried pulling and shaking and have not been able to break loose from these rings.

Thanks,
Cliff

They may just be well and truely stuck! I don't know of anything else that holds the bottom half on, but check for a screw or something inside.

If you are sure it is only the rubber ring, rock back and forth and twist slightly until it comes loose. Don't pull hard enough to bend it!

Check for an emission control hose on something down underneath, too -- I don't know if there is, but a stiff hose could hold it on pretty tight. I know the blow-by hose is on top, at least it is on the KE-jetronic fuel system.

Mine was floating around with two of the three mounts separated, so I didn't have any trouble at all removing it!
