Yes, just leave the transmission in drive.
I don't believe there is a way for most DIY'ers to check that PO130 code, I'd recommend replacement, it had in effect been "checked" already via the DTC. You calling your engine control module a LIAR? It's not that hard to replace for a mechanic, you may find it a challenge at home, best done on a hoist. I've noticed these small cracks on the dash for the passengers side airbag as well, not even the pickiest owner has complained about it though. I assume it has something to do with the way the dash is put together to allow the airbag to burst out. I believe that airbag section is a seperate part so that if it would deploy (and the car is salvageable) the dash won't need to be replaced.. Gilly

No problem, I will book in a service to get it sorted out. (I wasn't calling it a liar, just curious)
I would like to thank you very much for your kind help. Regards Nick |

Nick:
I was just teasing about the "liar" thing, it's an inanimate object after all. Gilly

Hi Gilly
Hey no worries. By the way how long would it take? Should I change both front ones? And does it make any difference that I have an AMG Dual pipe silcencer on my car? Regards Nick |

Should take around .5 hour. No idea on the AMG question.

Hi,
I had an AMG dual exhaust pipes system (like what is on the CLK55) installed at factory, (i don't it should make a difference though as it is just a rear box) Should I change both front ones though? Regards Nick |

They're kind of pricey, I'd just do the one that has the fault code. If they were cheap, I'd say do both. If it were mine I'd just do the one.

Ok, I'll do the one.
I forgot to ask how much is the part (approx)? And how much would they charge to do the job (approx)? Regards Nick |

Well, you can do a currency exchange rate on the US dollar amount and hope it's comparable, i just don't know if it will be as easy as that or not, but over here I want to say in the $150-$200 range. Labor I would assume would be the same, it should be about .5 to 1.0 hours labor, no more than an hour. You can multiply that by the hourly labor rate there, the flat rate hours should stay universal, but I have no idea what the labor rate is there in the UK.

Thanks
I think you have answered all my questions.
I have a couple of questions regarding a 420SE (1986). But I will try to find out a little bit more about it. Kind Regards Nick |

My dealer said told me to wait 2 weeks till they can book the car
Hi Dan,
Yeah you were correct with the price £121 ($175). What is the O2 sensor for? Does the O2 sensor affect the shaking? Do you know the part number by the off chance? Also I saw another post saying that a check engine light should have come on with my 02 fault? (Which it didn't? Is that ok on my car?) Nick Last edited by barflux; 08-15-2002 at 04:06 AM. |

If your car is made before 6/2000 it would have 001 540 08 17 and 001 540 10 17 sensors for front sensors. They are both listed as $110 MB list. Both of these numbers aply to vehicles without code 801 (which I don't know). They are also for US cars so you could have different ones.
The O2 sensors in front of the cats measure the amount of O2 left in the exhaust after combustion. This tells the controller the instantanious mixture and the controller alters its calculation for fuel based on this. If slightly rich it removes fuel which eventually causes too lean and it adds fuel. This "closed loop" control keeps the mixture at an exact mixture with the exact fuel to air mix that results in stoiciometry: HxCx + O2 = CO2 + H2O. The act of running slightly lean and then slightly rich gives the average above. The extra O2 dduring the lean swing is used by the cats to do the oxidation reaction. The rear sensors are another story.

Query see below
I went to the dealer this week to get it replaced, but he ran a diagnostics again to check if error occured, but it didn't and they checked for any problem, and they found none, however he siad they did some adjustments on the engine via the computer, and said everything in the car is perfect. He said I don't need it replaced, and did not charge me for anything?
What should I do? Is it a case where it is computer controlled or if it is broken to replace it? Should I take it elsewhere? Regards Nick |

Well, he said he did some adjustments, wish he would elaborate on what he did exactly. Is the problem still there or not?

Sort off but, no way as bad as before
If I leave the car in D then the shaking is very minimal and sometimes not there, but as soon as you put in P or N it's back.
AC noise still there though. Diagnostics on Climate control and Star say everything is ok no faults. Sadly he didn't elaborate, but I will try to find out. Regards Nick |
