CD rom manuals on ebay?

Has anyone bought the cd-rom shop manuals that are always up for auction on ebay? The "buy now" price is only around $14, but I thought the set was around $100 from the dealer? How are they so cheap on ebay? Are these pirated copies? $14 is a lot cheaper than over $100 for paperback MB shop manuals, but I don't want to waste money if these CDs are no good.

Thanks,

Greg

RE: CD on e-bay

Greg- I have purchased the cd on e-bay, but it appears that it is a bootleg copy of the original. It works, but it is not like their old hard paper manuals. You might want to check Bentley books as there is a new 124 manual coming out in Sept by Stu Ritter who has worked on MBs.

CD-Roms in eBay

Ron is right. These are bootleg copies. Without a decent index system, however, the CDs are not very useful. The CD for the W126 is better than the one for the W124.

I am surprised that M-B has not yet moved to stop the sale of these CDs.

CD manuals from Ebay

I just purchased a 126 manual, started going over it today, it is written for someone that has Mercedes experience, it is not a step by step manual like "Windows for Dummies" but it is informative, looks like it covers most everything and for the price anywhere from $10.00 on up, I like it so far.

Re: Shop CDs

Unfortunately, they are not for the DIYer. But they are really geared to the mechanic, who already has working knowledge plus updated satellite schooling through the dealership. They really do not want the DIYer to know much.

As I mentioned in my first post, Bentley books will be coming out with a 124 manual by someone who once owned a shop and has geared the manual to the DIYer.

I do not go along with bootlegging, but if I would have had to pay the full boat price for an original, I would have been upset.
