Does the track need lubrication? Mine did the same thing. I opened the roof & sprayed WD40 all along the track. It did the trick.

Better lube those rails before you burn out the motor. But don't use WD-40. Get the proper grease from the dealer and you will prolong the life of your sunroof. WD-40 wears off and attracts grime, which only makes matters worse.

I bought what MB recommends for lubing the sun roof. It's called Gleitpaste and cost me over $20 for 500 grams. p/n A 001 989 14 51

I use this stuff for many things besides the sun roof. It's kind of a miracle lubricant. I lube the sun roof twice a year.

I doubt that dealers use this lubricant (they're too cheap). The last time I talked to a dealer about it, I think he told me they used some kind of spray they get from Audi.

That answered the nagging question I had, in the back of my mind, of using WD40! Thanks for the info on that!

I don't know when or where you bought your slide paste Bud, but I just paid $43 US for the same 1.1 lbs/500gr can of paste. Now have a lifetime supply, and yes I'm using it for other than sunroof lube too, a little goes a long, long way.

My dealer, interestingly enough, suggested I use WD-40. They said not to spend my money on a huge tub of the official grease or whatever. I guess if you can use it for a variety of purposes, though, it isn't too bad a price.

I've had the Gleispaste for several years. I bought it with a 20% discount from my local MB dealer for around $22. It's amazing stuff. I found that it would make sliding screen doors slide like they were on air. I've got enough of the stuff to lube every sun roof in the Valley of the Sun:-)

As for WD-40, I stopped using that stuff a long time ago. I can't imagine a MB shop recommending it (well, maybe I can:-))
