plugs for euro headlights (maybe Ashman can help me!)
 

These W201 euro headlights that I may be getting will need plugs so that they will be able to use a higher wattage bulb. What are they? Where can I get them, and how much do two plugs cost? Are they easy to install? I need to know to help me decide if I should purchase these euros (they're affordable). Do most euro lights come with plugs? Thanks!

I strongly suggest that you use standard wattage bulbs. By far the most important component of a good headlight is the reflector. That's where the Euro headlights are far superior, the reflector shapes the light beam properly. If you use high wattage bulbs, you will be generating a lot of heat that will destroy your lights, been there, done that. At least TRY the standard wattage bulbs first.

Thanks, Larry. Maybe it's not about the high wattage bulbs. I was told I will need a new set of plugs for the euro lights regardless of what kinds of bulbs I use. Does PartsShop carry euro plugs? Thanks.

I haven't rewired with relays, the standard 55w bulbs in the headlights, are plenty bright enough, I saw no reason to warrant the wiring upgrade since I wont be using the higher wattage bulbs.

What you need are the euro connectors which have the extra pin sections for the city light. They are cheap. Call phil @ Partsshop he can source you some for the car.

If you want to rewire with relays and all you still need those connectors to connect the factory wires back into the euro headlight itself.

Not sure if the part number is different for w124 and w201 euro lights. best bet is to check with phil @ partsshop/fastlane

The euro lights you purchase most likely won't come with the plugs unless the place you're buying them from has assembled a kit of some sort. I believe the parts you will need are 006 545 80 28 (socket) and 009 545 30 28 (cover). At least this is what it took for my W126. You'll need two of each, one set of socket and cover per side. You should be able to get them all for $10 or less. The plugs for the lights, as you may know, are essentially female sockets. The wires can simply be removed from your old sockets and transferred to the new sockets. No soldering is necessary. The socket changout shouldn't take but a few minutes per side.

I'm not affiliated with any company, and I normally don't promote companies. But there are cases when a company deserves a "good word of mouth." The W201 euros I'm getting are from Import Vision Motorsports. Go to their website importvision.com. The company is based in Simi Valley, and they carry euros for the W124 too. The lights are DEPO brand, and from what I heard, they're just as good as Hella or Bosch euros. (I need to thank Ashman for the information and opinions he shared. His experience with this brand and opinions were what made me decide to go with these euros.) Ken is the person you want to speak to. He's awesome to do business with and really, really nice and helpful. I think this guy has a Ph.D in customer service. He told me that I will need plugs or something and said they are fairly cheap. I forgot to ask him for a number, but anyway, under $10 is cheaper than I had expected! Thanks guys for the price info on the plugs.

Just FYI -- got my Hella Euros from Bekkers; they came with the 6-pin plug. They may sell just the plugs if you have trouble finding them elsewhere. Curious to hear that your "supplier" doesn't furnish the plugs with the lights???
