When I go to lock the doors on my '88 300E, all doors except the rear passenger side door, trunk and fuel door locks. I can hear an electronic 'whir' and a sort of suction noise coming from the trunk. I have popped the trunk and I have narrowed the search (I think) to just behind the trunk locking mechanism.
Any ideas or advice? Thanks again for all of your responses/help. Stephen Davis 1988 300E 90k The "Cabernet Cruiser" p.s. - I also had an 85 190E that was having MAJOR problems - no mas 1985 190E...RIP [This message has been edited by CafcoTX (edited 06-05-99).] |
OK - New twist on this.
Last night after a run to the supermarket - my wife turned the key and all of the doors (including the fuel door) and the trunk locked. This morning, I inserted the key and unlocked the doors (engine off) and relocked them. Same problem as mentioned in my first post on this subject. Kinda spooky.. Does this have anything to do with having the cars' system 'charged'? TIA- Stephen Davis 1988 300E with a possessed vacuum system.. |
It could be that you have a fuel door locking element faulty. Sometimes they work in weird ways when they fail and cause a leak.

As far as a fix goes could you shed a little light on the subject - easy? tough?
Thanks again. Stephen Davis 1988 300E |
The element is inside the trunk and is hard to see but is located in the area of the fuel door. This is one of two elements that could be faulty, but is the most usuall one to fail. On a scale of 1 to 10; 10 being the most difficult; I give it a 3.
