Euro 124 without A/C

Hi,

I'm contemplating a very nice '87 300TE - obviously a Euro model. It looks very good (only 140k KM),but has no A/C. Is it realistic to think about adding A/C? After all, all the parts are widely available both new and used.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks

Martin

go to ackits.com and leave an email. They will get back to you the same day with information. They also can tell you how many shop hours are involved to install.

Don't pass up a good car if this is the only issue. It's very possible you could end up with a better a/c than a US car. These cars aren't exactly known for their great climate control systems.

Good luck,

I looked into this when I bought my '95 E220 last year. There are a number of firms offering to retro fit, if they're doing it properly with original MB parts, the cost will be about £1500 and they will need the car for 2-3 days.

I would NOT do this with MB parts. The guys at ackits.com offer really good stuff and can put you onto someone in your area to do a quality job. Because this is a 124 car, I will expect you to end up with a better a/c than a factory unit.

My $0.02,

Martin I have a euro W124 with no A/C and the New York heat has been killing me:( I also have been contemplating retro fitting a system.
Larry I'll look into those people you mentioned. The factory system would definately be a pain in the behind to install.

Unfortunately, all I got from akits.com was the following:

"I do not have a listing for this vehicle but you may try the dealer for this application or even e-bay!"

The dealer is, of course, the last place to look (bad A/C at huge prices). E-bay doesn't seem to be much better (used bad A/C with no installation)

So it's back to square one.

try phil @ Partsshop on thsi site. He may be able to source the necessary components for you.

That's disappointing news that ackits can't come up with an aftermarket a/c. If they could it would be better than MB's version.

I guess it was worth a try.

Good luck,
