I have a 1986 2.3 16 valve that has been converted to the r-134 refrigerant. It was done according to M-Benz specs and doesnt leak at all. My question is how much of the r134 should be placed into the system. The r-12 recharged at 3 lbs. Now, there is approximately 4 lbs of r134 in the system. It blows cold air, not as cold as the r-12. My question is, do you think that too much of the r134 was placed into the system?
I know that convrsions like this only need like 85% of the original capacity. Thanks, Joe |

These nubers seem really high for the amount of freon in the car... I thought that the factory fill was around 2.2lbs r-12 and 1.8 max fill for 134-a.

The best would be to put gauges on the system
and adjust the level to cool properly. The high side is very critical and Nip compressors can seize quickly... and are many $$$. Most MB with R-134 work best at factory fill specs less .3 lb. Don't ask why, its the word in my area. TobiasMB 300SE 300CE 190/5.0 |

FYI
MBNA Service Information 83/83 Oct 1996 covers this topic in depth. The factory recommended fill for a 201 chassis is 1.0Kg or 2.2# with R-12 When converted to R-134a the fill is 850g or 1.87# The fill quanitys for other models is also posted in this information |

I do not know if this is avalible on line but it is published information and your nearest Mercedes Dealer can get it for you.
If you give them the SI number it will help them a great deal. |
