'70 280se A/c
I just purchased a 1970 280SE without the owner's manual and can't figure out the air conditioning or heater/ventilation controls. It gets to about 98 degrees during the afternoons in this part of California and I'm hoping someone can explain it for me.
Also... where would you suggest I purchase an owner's manual? I found one brand new for $52. Is that a good buy? Thanks Larry Engel lkengel@msn.com |
The knob on the right turns on the compressor ( as indicated by a green light) and also acts as a thermostat. The left knob is the fan speed control.
Thats the way it is on my '71 anyway.. Hope that helped :) -Larry |
Larry has the AC correct. The temp control is colder the farther clockwise it is turned.
If you don't get any cooling, check the charge. You can convert to 134a without any problems. The heater/vent controls are as follows: Upper left lever, vent and blower. Right, off, four steps to the left: 1) airflow on 2) blower low, 3) blower medium 4) blower hight Upper right lever: Air distribution left, windshield, right, floor Lower levers: Heat control for appropriate side. toward center, off, cold. toward outside of panel, hot. (the work oppsite each other). Levers for side vents: Up, open, down closed. These blow unconditioned air only, I think. Peter |
