76 280 SL euro

I have a 1976 280 euro SL. It has electronic fuel injection. I have not been able to fined information on this fuel injection system. I bought this car with the timing chain out and had to grind the valves. (2 bent valves). I have had to adjust to run with vacume guage and tach.It is running fairly well now but still not perfect. I had trouble with the plugs heating up to start with and am afraid to drive it on any long trips untill I can get this system set up to specs. Is there a sorce for a manual on this fuel system? Or do you have specs on this system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Boyd

My Euro 500 se uses many engine parts from non Euro 560 SEL might be worth looking at a manual for the non Euro model.......

Thanks for the input. I have several books on mercedes. The last one I baught was a mercedes shop manual for the 110 engine. It covers everything you could possably need to know, except electronic fuel injection. Electronic fuel injections were only used on euro modles in 76. Amrican modles all used mechanical fuel injection. I have 3 diffrent Chilton and 2 Mercedes manuals. None of them have one thing about electronic fuel injection for the mid 70's.
Also I have a problem with the cold start valve. I am getting 12 volts to it cold and in the start mode. but it is not enough to activate the valve. If I jump a wire to it from the battery it works fine. Any ideas?

Boyd. Have you looked into changing the whole injection system over to an American system from an
American 280 engine? Were the 76 Euro 280 Sl's double or single cam engines? If it is the single cam engine there should be an ample supply of salvage engines around.I was a touch leary about buying a Euro model, but since owening it some months now I have had no problems getting parts (Fast Lane) and salvage yards. I just completed rebuilding the front ends on both my 81 Sd and the 86 Euro 500 Se and all the front parts were the same however the rear suppension is different, another difference is that should I need to replace the engine an American 560 SEL engine won't bolt up to the Euro transmission.I belive in that case I would look for a salvage American 420 or 560 SEL with a good engine an tranny and put them both in my SE. One very nice thing I have found out about MB cars is that when they design a good part they often use it on many models.......

Hi William, I have thought about converting over to mechanical fuel injection, but it looks like a big job. from the fuel pump in the rear to intake manifold, fuel distributer, emc unit ect. Actualy it is running very good right now. I don't know if it is going to heat up the spark plugs and wires like it did. I just need to get the cold start valve working before winter sets in. Boyd
