Just Wanted To Say That "ashman" Is The Greatest!!!!

MUCHO KUDOS to my friend alon for coming out on friday night and helping me get my car back in running condition (broken belt)....

after a grueling 4 hours, we were able to finally get the belt onto the benz....only to find that when the belt broke, it broke my distributor too...ugh...

and then...
i messed up one of the ignition wires.....and the car is still not running....!!!!!!!
ugh!!!!!

still ALON IS THE BEST!!!
thanks bro...
when i get my cashflow back up....i'm buying mexican and margaritas....

As an ex LA guy, I was curious how the belt effected the distributor and broke it ?
Didn't think there was any connection there.
good luck getting it running.

hey whoever is reading this...you should scoop up alon!!!

i was amazed at how he was so determined and positive about getting my belt changed...

and voila...he did it!!!

even though the car wasn't running tip top, due to a cracked distributor cap, it was definitely better off than before....

oh and paul, i was able to find an full factory set from mbz in the south bay for 155.00!!!!!!

woo hoo....

p.s.

parts guy at W I Simonz in santa monica is an jerk-off....not helpful at all!!!!!

i hope i can get the wires and put them on tonight....

i keep reading posts of better gas mileage, etc.

thanks again to alon, cause if not for him, my 300CE baby would be at enrique's waiting to get a 600.00+ service for belt, tensioner, and cap replacement....

because of alon, my 600.00+ is now only 45.00 for belt and gloves (to keep our hands clean), 155.00 for wire set (my screw up), and 81.00 for italian made distributor cap (casualty of belt cracking like a whip).....281.00....woo hoo...and even though that's still a lot (i'm broke ugh.. :( waaaahhh)....it's way better than 600.00 or more....alon thanks for the help and your positive thinking!!!!!

p.s. anyone know where i could get a used supressor cover?
that was destroyed by the belt as well...ugh

hey ex LA guy,

well we both are speculating that the belt broke (i was downshifting and speeding up to 90 mph when the belt went) with such force that it totally cracked the supressor housing cover, and then whipped down on plug "1", which was where the spark was coming out therefore making my car idle and surge forward...and i had to drive it home (slowly) with only 5 cylinders going....

oops, just read your writing on the other thread - got the picture. must have been a dramatic rupture...

I'd do just about anything to help a friend in need, and in this case, it was a challenging repair. Nightime, the low glow of flourescent lighting at an AMPM, chatty homeless people, a few brews, and several pairs of gloves, and a few rerouting of the belt till we finally got it wrapped arounf everything, the last pulley was tough, but, with some determination and some thinking, and a nice big 17mm open ended wrench, we were able to barely get the belt onto the steering pump pulley, the only place we could get enough leverage, and once on, which was what took the longest, because we had to really get that belt stretched high enough to get on, it finally went into place.

When Rich told me about the surging/misfiring, I instantly figured cracked cap., and we opened the hood only to see a nice spark jumping out of the number one cap connection.

I guess a belt coming off a car at 90mph has a lot more speed than 90mph!!! we limped it back to my house, downed a couple of beers, went off for a late dinner, and then chatted some more, and then rich cruised home.

All in all, it was an eventful evening. IT did help having my identical car right there for comparison of the belt routing.

i was a stress case...

i currently am...due to the financial drainage, but at least i'm able to bounce back with the lower fee than what could have been...

ugh
and i'm such a dumb a$$...i should have been more cautious/smart and slow in trying to dislodge my ignition wire then i wouldn't have pulled the wire out of the plug...and i would have saved 155.00 but on the upside...new factory all copper spark plugs would mean better mpg, etc.
so it's a win win situation i think....

alon's the coolest!!!!
thanks again bro!!!!
really that was so awesome of you and i totally appreciate it...

like i said when i get my finances replenished, i will totally take you out for eats and drinks!!!!
