Just changed my oil in my 88' 429 sel. Manual called for 8.5 qts. with filter. Changed filter and put in 8 qts., ran engin then checked dipstick. Dipstick say it's slightly over the arrow and the "Max." Engine was too hot to try to drain out. Should I drain this amount out or not worry about it? How much "overfull" would it have to be to pop a seal or blow something out?

I understand that very slight overfill ppresents no problem, and that overfill must be in excess of 1 pint before damage may occur.

It will not hurt a thing. Did you change the filter before or after you drained the oil??

I drained the oil before I changed the filter. My driveway is not "perfectly" level (but close) so I fighued there was just some residual oil that didn't drain out. At times when I check it it seems to right up to the "max" and at others it seems over. Guess it depends on how level the car is setting when it's checked and how hot it is.

FYI: I discovered that Exxon & Havoline are both selling synthethic grade oils now at a $1 less per quart than Mobil or Castorl.
