i had my valves ajusted yesterday, but their was a problem getting the correct shim size! the tech who adjusted them order 6 shims and 2 of those had to be 4mm, but all the dealers had where 3mm. now he said that the difference wouldn't hurt the engine but that i still would have some noise from the valves. now that i have the car the valves sound as noisy as the did before having them adjusted!
WILL THE ENGINE STAY GOOD DRIVING THE CAR LIKE THIS? SHOULD THE NOISE HAD GONE AWAY? IM SKEPTICAL AND KIND OF ANGRY THAT THE NOISE IS STILL PRESENT!, YOUR SUGGESTIONS ARE HELPFUL...... |

Pete why don't you register and put your car in your signature. What kind of car are we talking about.

UPSS..! I'AM REFERING TO AN 86 190E-16V.
YOU KNOW I CAN LIVE WITH THE NOISE BUT THE FACT THAT I CAN HERE IT, LEAVES ME SKEPTICAL IN REGARDS TO STEPPING ON THE GAS HARD OR TAKING A LONG TRIP!(TIJUANA,ROSARITO,VEGAS ETC..) BENZMAC-WOULD YOU KNOW THE COST FOR HAVING THE FUEL RELAYS, AIR FLOW SENSOR, OR ANY OTHER RELAYS OR SENSORS THAT MIGHT BE CAUSING MY CAR TO STALL AT LEAST 2 TIMES A MONTH CHECKED??? $$$. |

Yikes! Few shops have the proper tools to do a valve job on 16V's. My suggestion is find a shop that can do it right. I wouldn't leave my 16V like that (not with any new noise). If the shop has done valve jobs on E30 M3's than they have the tools and knowledge to do it to your car. The fuel pump relay is $115, but that is not likely your stalling problem. I know lots of people who have dumped thousands of dollars into replacing parts to fix the 16V's stalling. None of which ever got it fixed. Only two people I know have every elimninated the stalling problem (I am one of them). We both found the problem to be a cold solder in the CIS-E computer (Mercedes is not known for there electronics). I (as did the other party) took the computer apart and resoldered every compenent, since then, no more stalling. All 16V's I know of stall, and this is the only known fix I have ever heard of (like I said, I know people who have literally spent thousands of dollars to try and fix it too).

FYI, I do have the tools and about 5 each of the adjustment shims and I performed a valve adjustment on a subscriber's car. I found that the head shop did not do a great job on the valve job and he had to take the car back to the shop that did the valve job and have it done over again only to have to ring it back to me to do the valve adjustment.
On the stall. I think there was a modified control module that helps with the idle. ------------------ Benzmac: ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN LEAD TECHNICIAN FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
