Easy 190 question! Anybody?

Howdy all,

What is the circular, plastic container that is resting below the rear drivers side seat of my 190 16v? In addition, what is the foam covered container on the opposite side?

All help appreciated!

Dan Rotigel

Thank you very much DOC, myself and many others couldn't do this sort of thing without you and your cohorts!

The round plastic part on the left side is an alarm "anti-tow" sensor that should be disconnected!

On the right side you have the central locking vacuum/pressure pump.

What the heck is an anti-tow sensor? What is it's function? Does the W140 S-Class have one too?

yes! i would also like to know what an anti-tow sensor is. Is it present on the 8v model aswell? my car was just towed, and my mechanic doesn't know why it won't start at all (the driveshaft broke at hwy speeds, yikes)

on a seperate note, would a driveshaft letting go at high speed be enough of a jolt to deploy the air bag? because it did and it scared the poo out of my girlfriend (!) thanks.

The IDEA of an anti-tow sensor is a good one & it is used on many cars today including the ML's. IF the car was locked & alarm was armed and someone "moved the car" like a tow truck, the sensor would set off the alarm. However the ones on MB's thru early 1987 didn't function properly & would cause "honk-honk-honk" all of the time. SO MB deleted them & ALL of them were susposed to be removed OR disconnected.
