what kind of fluid to use in the tranny and rear end ?
my '99 C43 AMG is shifting kid of sloppy, so I am thinking it's time for new fluids in both RE and the tranny. so, does anyone know what type of "juice" it takes ?
Thanks in advance, George '99 C43 '91 SCCA Spec Miata Racecar (SCCA SM) |

Trans fluid must be Mercedes Benz OEM fluid, only use a tech who is familiar and has done the procedure before.
Rear axle, either MB brand or another high quality fluid, I use Redline Gear Oil, something like 75 W90, but I need to double check |

Ethan;
Is it a very complicated procedure? I change my trans and RE fluids on my Miata race car. How difficult can the Benz be? George |

Just look at your owner's manual or...
request a list for approved products from MB. I did not use MB's stuff for either one and my car is just fine. Just use a high quality brand. Do a search!

The trans fluid for a C43 is a synthetic fluid that MUST be MB fluid. To do a complete sevice on the trans replacing the filter and fluid requires about 7 to 8 litres of fluid. To check the fluid level requires an MB special tool (dip stick) since the late modle electronic transmissions don't come with a dip stick. The whole procedure is not that difficult. If you do choose to do it yourself be sure to drain the torque convertor also. The diff takes any good quality 70w90 gear oil. About 3 pints should fill the diff. One more note on the trans fluid. Mercedes says the trans are filled for life. Only problem is they wont tell you how long that "life" is.I would suggest not going more than 60k miles without changing fluid and filter.

I bet you the fluid is not the culprit. I bet your trans needs some servicing. Sloppy shifting could be as innocent as a fluid or a computer but if you take it to the dealer, theyll proabably want to rebuild the trans//
Are you an aggressive driver? (Burnouts, Kickdown, High rpm shifts, eye popping braking) |

Am I an aggressive driver? To be perfectly honest, yes. Safe yet aggressive. However, most of my driving in on the hwy and the only place I gert to be aggressive is the on-off ramps.
