124 Air cond. problem

My 1995 E300 air conditioner fan never slows down in the auto mode. Everything else with the system works ok. Whats going on?

My guess would be the thermostat in the car. I don't even know where it is. Have seen the location posted on som BB somewhere, though. Do a search for it.

THere is a grill next to the dome light near the rear view mirror. Air should be drawn through this grill any time the ignition is on. There is a fan that draws this air over a temperature sensor. Hold a piece of tissue paper to see if it is drawing air through the grill. If not, get a manual to find the location of the fan motor. On an 88 it is to the right of the glove box and accessible by removing the glove box liner.

Good luck,

Good call Larry, I might also inquire if you are trying to adjust the temp wheel. There will be little change in blower speed if you leave the setting at "Min".

In auto blower position, fan speed is a function of the deviation between set temp and the actual sensor readings. If any sensor is vastly skewed the deviation won't change much as real temps change (all changes are relatively small in comparison to a really skewed sensor). Lack of airflow can be one of the greatest problems as the heat of the roof gives a false inside temp reading.

Since my 95 E class has dual air bags, where is the interior temp blower motor? (models with single air bags had it located behind the glove box)

Some models had it located somewhere forward of the console. It was in a few different places over the run of the 124.

Have a great day,

I believe the interior never gets cool enough for auto to slow down the fans. In fact, I never remember a moment having auto on and it would slow down the fans. I think auto mode is designed for the winter to keep your car at 72.

The "aspirator motor", as it is called, is on the right side, around the passenger's air bag (outboard of the airbag, if I recall correctly). If you have small hands you may be able to reach around and find it. They often fail.

Did you do the tissue test as mentioned above?

As Stevebl says, do you have your temp wheel set at a reasonable temperature, e.g. 75 degrees? If so, and everything is working, yes, the system should definitely be able to eventually get cabin temp. down to the point where the blower will slow down. (At least mine does, even in 95 degree temps.)

will concur with the above post. my blower will slow down
upon reaching desired cabin temperature - whether it be
the a/c or the heater.
