I changed my 400E motor mounts today
 

I just wanted to post this to say that this went extremely smooth and fast, which is the opposite of what I thought it would be. I used the information that "F.J.Lahme" posted in the "400e engine mounts ... help" forum and would just like to say that his information was very precise and helped me change mine smoothly. Thanks!.

I would just like to add, that since the motor mounts are so big, its often easier (I found) to undo 3 of the 4 bolts holding the mounting bracket to the engine (so you can swing it out of the way) so that the new mounts can slide in easier. This doesnt take much time to do. Surprisingly, everything is easily accessed. My old mounts were SHOT! I could push on them and liquid (oil?) came pouring out. All the rubbers were broke. With the new mounts in, the engine now sits level and a bit higher. I never had a rough idle before....but upon starting the car up with the new mounts in, wow! Smooth as glass!

All in all, it took only an hour and a half. Not bad considering the labor book gives 2 hours to do it. Never changed motor mounts before either. The engine is soooo smooth now... :D
