Which horn is which?

The more "American" sounding horn is causing a fuse to blow when I honk.

The more "European" sounding horn is fine.

The online catalog lists the two horns as 335Hz, and 400Hz.

Sorry, but my ears didn't come with a frequency counter, so how do I know which is which?

THere is not European or American horn, to the best of my knowledge. Your horn's sound is made up by the 2 different frequencies.

Thus, freq1 + freq1 = freq3.

I hope this helps... sorry I couldn't answer your question though!

The European horn you are hearing are the 335Hz and 400Hz you described. They combine to make the one tone. The American sounding horn is your fanfare horn (the switch in the center console). If that is blowing a fuse perhaps it is shorted somewhere or the horn is bad and is drawing too much current. I think that one sounds like crap anyways, I like the Euro sounding ones better.

I believe all MB have 2 horns and those are what you see listed at Fastlane. Are you saying that when you hit the horn, a fuse blows?

560SEL has a highway (the regular MB dual horn) and a city or fanfare horn, the much higher one. Switch on center console. The fanfare is a single horn I beileve.

more specific

Let me add more detail.....

When I have the horn switch depressed towards the FRONT of the car, I have no problem.

When I have the horn switch depressed towards the BACK of the car, I blow a fuse when I honk the horn.

If what has been posted so far is accurate (i.e. the sound is created by using one horn or both), then this means that one horn is used when the button is towards the front, and the two horns are used when the button is towards the back.

From this I deduce that it must be a problem with the second horn in. If it were with the first one, then the fuse would blow in both positions.

Which horn is the second one in, 335Hz, or 400Hz??
