Why do people rip Mercedes Hood Emblems off of our Cars?

Last night at 12 midnite, right in front of my House, I saw a kid drive by my 83 240D and then suddenly stop, reverse, and then I saw him get out of his car.
He ripped the hood emblem right off my painstakingly restored 240D and screeched away.
The whole action was so presposterous at the moment that I didnt do anything. I was stunned, but calm ..but at the same time I realized it was just a replaceable part, maybe $30.00..
This morning another Mercedes owner confided to me that this had happened to him twice....Why do kids do this?
Should I "thread" my next hood ornament in and take it with me on my key chain?

ZAP!

I suggest that you run a wire directly to the battery with a little switch in the ornament base that will give the offender a gentle reminder, DO NOT TOUCH!

I think it's because some gangsta rappers wore them on chains around their necks back in the 80's.

My car has had two hood stars nicked, and one trunk star...I don't get it, what is so great about that star...I'm sure that they never even do anything with them...

I'm gonna get me one of those metallic cover you put instead of the front star. For the trunk I was gonna have it debadged anyways...

I wouldn't go with any offensive countermeasure because a stolen hood emblem is a lot less expensive to get fixed than i.e. damage to paint from sharp objects...

If anyone has seen Aerosmith's latest video "Girls of Summer..." or whatever it's called, that should elicit more copycat incidents of "star-jacking".

The scene is is one in which three lovely ladies are crossing a busy street only to receive "cat calls" from a couple of young hunks in a CLK convertible. One of the bolder women decides to confront the two, so she steps in front of the MB and proceeds to lick the emblem in a sensual fashion. This, of course gets the two guys really excited, only the woman stops abruptly, grabs the enblem by one hand, and pulls it right off the car (strong girl)!

All I could think about is now every adolescent is going to mimic that move whenever they see an MB nearby...gotta protect that W124!

If you do a search you will find all kinds of ideas on how to stop this I still like the idea of giving them a shock everytime.

You need to move to Texas. We have a concealed carry law. I have no problem with this.

Have a great day,

I was pleasantly surprised that the hood emblem for my car costs only $23 from Mercedesshop.com. I ordered one as a spare figuring that if one does get "nicked" I will say to myself "Ahh, good, now I get to use the new one", instead of saying "^%@#%&@*%#%".

And if Murphy has a law pertaining to hood emblems, I will never need the new one.

Spaces in sig so as not to screw up the SEARCH; every time someone searches for that MB they don't want my sig!
