Wanted to replace the belt.Removed the fan. Slackened the bolt on the tensioner. Turning tensioning nut did not relaease the tension on the belt. The pointer on the tensioner could be moved by hand.It appears that only the top portion of the tensioner nut turns. What went wrong !
Put everything back together. Car is on the road but the belt is slightly loose. Any other way to increase the belt tension.

Sandeep
If the belt tensioner is out of adjustment
replace the tensioner, the rubbe bushing in center of tensioner is broken.

I don't know what model you have, but on my 190E I had a similar problem. The tensioner was very easy to replace and took me only about 20mins. Good Luck...

I always hear squeaking sound when I start my car in the morning. then it slowly deminish. I was suspecting that it comes from the fan belt. but my fan belt is Ok. need advice.

The sqweaking noise is the same thing my 190 was doing, a new tensioner cured it. I bought mine thru the dealer cuz i wanted to fix it the same day. I paid around $250. I have seen them around $200 mail order.

The sel you have may have an air pump on it that is causing the noise. They run when the enigne is cold.
