400SE front wheel bearings

My project for last weekend was to replace the front wheel bearings. I took the hub out on one side, and was surprised that it did not have the two little recesses to drift out the outer race of the outer bearing. The amount of 'reveal' of the outer race appeared to be about 1mm. Not enough for a drift to catch a hold. So, how on earth do you knock out the bearing?

Thanks for any help

I use a long punch with a chisel point, patience and a hammer.
