Wiper Arms Hit HARD on Downswipe

I have a 1992 SEL600, and the wiper arms hit HARD at the bottom of every sweep. Is there an adjustment that can be done to fix this?? Perhaps so the arms sit a touch higher at their normal parked position??

Thanks,

I am not positive that I know the configuration of your particular car, but see if this will work.

Lift up the hinged cover that is over the nut that holds the arm. Remove the nut that holds the arm in place. Pull the arm off the shaft and rotate it up a notch or two on the spline and push back onto the splined shaft.

Reattach the nut and fold the hinged cover back into place.

Good luck,

That will work if it is the passsenger side that is hitting. If it is the drivers side the whole she-bang will have to be removed and the transmission adjusted properly. Has the wiper transmission ever been replaced?

I'm sure the wiper transmission has never been replaced, so I'm guessing there are enough worn pivot points that the arms are going down too far.
What are we looking at to pull out the whole "she-bang" and make the adjustments?? :-(
Thanks.

Probably something you would not want to do yourself. New transmission is about $700 if you screw it up. The wiper arms come off, the plastic covering the wiper motor, then unbolt the assembly and wiggle it out. I watched the mechanic replace mine and it is pretty complicated. He had to adjust the transmission two times before it was right. Have to put it back in to check it out.
