On one of the Mercedes lists, George Murphy (I think?) posted a message some time ago about restoring proper operation of the alarm system on his wife's 300E. I'm having this same problem, that is the alarm will arm / disarm unreliably from the driver's door. I can find what should be done; that is - clean the locks with alcohol and re-lube with the proper MB stuff, but I can't find the details on how to clean the locks. Can anyone assist?

I doubt that cleaning will help. The only cure I have found is to replace the assy with the switches for the alarm in it.

Okay, so maybe cleaning / re-lubing won't help. But humor me a little; do you think cleaning with contact cleaner would be safe? I know that I don't want to gum up the workings of the locks so I'm staying away from anything that doesn't flash off readily.
