Front axel nut 300TE 4matic/removal/torn boot
Anybody tackle a torn front drive axel boot lately? The axel nut seems to be a strange shape I haven't encountered before. Is there a special socket for it? I assume once the axel nut and the bolts from the inner axel are removed, one can replace the rubber boot. Car is a 93 300 TE 4 matic wagon. Thanks in advance.

12 point socket, 30mm I think.
You've got to drop the upper ball joint the allow the knuckle to drop outward. This will allow the axle to be snaked out of the hub, then pulled out. I just did one I was afraid to open the upper joint on and it too some serious shoving on the motor after loosening the motor mounts to get the axle to clear the block. Joe

more special tool
1. I think you might need another special tool to clamp the boot securely on to the assembly.
2. It’s called “Clamp Pliers”; it’s made by Hazet, part number 1847-1. Take a look at this page: http://www.hazet.de/eng/katalog/suche_3.asp?F=1847%2D1&H=100&U=200 3. If not let me know what you use in its place, because I need to do my rear axle it’s the same concept. 4. Oh last note it’s sometimes easier to get that nut out with and impact gun don’t know why I’m not a physics major, I use a breaker bar at first but had access to the air wrench so I try that just for fun and it came right off. Good luck, Thai GI sends…
