Where to start to start?
I have a 1977 450sl that runs like a top once it starts. The problem is what seems to either be flooded or fuel starved. It takes 2-3 attempts to start before a sputter and regular idle. I don't think it is ignition, but more in the fuel delivery. What steps should I take and in what order? (hopefully cheapest to expensive)

The correct operation of this fuel system is DEPENDANT on fuel pressure differential. System pressure vs. control pressure. I would attach a fuel pressure gauge & run the car to see if the system is operating properly.
