"for anybody who owns a 190e-16 86"
after you or your mechanic adjust the valves on your car; can you still hear them ticking or is the ticking completely gone?
im asking because i'am going to have the mechanic who should have adjusted the valves in my car(72,000) correctly do them right!
i paid him $160 to adjust the valves in my car; since they were real noisy, but after i got it back the ticking noise was as bad as when i 1st took it...DO THE VALVES IN THIS MODEL CAR STAY NOISY OR DO THEY QUIET NOTICEABLY? thanksssss..

As with any car w/mechanical adj. valves there is noise. This is why almost no car maker uses this design(not to mention emissions). The clearance for the intake side is less than half of the exhaust, so the noise comes from the exhaust side. To adjust the valves the cam must be removed & different size shims have to be installed.
This is very labor intensive & the shims cost $5-8 each. Were you billed for shims?? M.B. has a form for the valve adjustment, the clearance has a large +- value. Setting the valves to the lower mean value(takes time) will help with valve noise, runs better too!
A lot of the engine noise on 16V engines comes from the piston clearance. These engines were designed for racing & have more piston to cylinder clearance than most engines!! So don't blame all of the noise on the valves.

I did do an adjustment on a 16v per the MB sheet and it did quiet the valves down, but there was some noise still there. I have to say that it is very normal for I double checked my work and the valves were on the money when I finished.
