126 rear axle drain plug location
I crawled under my 1988 300sel to change the fuel filter and was going to drain the axle as well but could not find the plug.
The fill plug and vent is easy to find but I expected to see a plug at the botton of the differential. Do I have to remove one of the bottom bolts holding the assembly? What does the plug look like? could it be covered with crud? Would appreciate some help, thanks Armind |
Armind,
Don't know exactly for your car but on every other MB I have owned the plug is on the bottom, it is 14mm socket, and yes, they get covered in crud. Never had to unscrew the back cover or anything, always had a plug. Good luck, Jim |
it's on the bottom of my 126's make sure you loosen the upper filler plug first, plugs can be very tight and you don't want to get bottom one out and then have trouble with top filler plug, use top quailty 14 mm hex scoket and make sure it goes all the way in..........

Thank you Jim & William
Thanks for the reply, I will look for that drain plug again tonight, is ti the same size as the filler plug? should I use semi synthetic or the straight 85-90W? I've got both.
Thanks again, Armind |
