I've been reading past postings on the timing chain troubles with some of the motors but there is'nt any info on the 2.6 I have in my 190 (92). Does the 2.6 have the same symptoms? I have 102,000 mi on it and the valve cover has never been off. What about the broken timing chain thing? Car runs great. No noises or hesitation. Gonna trade it in on a 400E and its just my luck to have it brake the day before I make a deal.
Thanks
Tom

In response to the question of timing chain troubles on the 2.6 engine, yes they too are not immune from troubles. If you've been good about performing oil services are maintaining the vehicle you shouldn't have to worry about the chain till at least 150K. If you should begin to hear strange noises from the timing cover area before then though, have it checked out.

All mechanical devices wear out!! Just when is the question?? In the case of M103 the timing chain lasts a long time. Some time soon have the valve cover removed & the timing chain inspected for wear. Not uncommon for these engines to go 150k-200k on the timing chain, with regular oil changes.

The chain on this engine is very durable. I had one and drove it for 190K+ miles before I sold it and it gave no trouble.
