High Pressure AC switch

I replaced the Switch when I had the evaporator core job done. Now they're telling me that the switch is leaking.... Is the switch solid through the core or is there some sort of epoxy on the inner part would could become defective and allow the swstem to leak.

I would be surprised if there is something on the switch that "could become defective".

Ive not seen a high pressure switch become defective and leak. Possibly the o-ring that seals the switch to the dryer is leaking. On the other hand I have seen the low pressre switch on the dryer actually leak out of the switch. Typically both switches get replaced at the same time.Depending on when you had the repairs done the parts may still be in waranty. Most MB parts carry a 12 month/ unlimited mileage waranty.

Thanks guys

I bit the bullet and let the independent charge me again for the labor to check/replace the Hi Pressure switch. I just told him to make damn sure that it doesn't spring another leak or it his @$$ for sure.

Hey LUCY!, Its Leaking Again!!!!!!!

The A/C went flat again. Now they're telling me that the Evap.Core is leaking .....AGAIN!!!!!
Your Thoughts??

For starters, I'd find another shop.

They're either incompetent or in search of Christmas cash.

Hi Albert, just bite the bullet and let your local MB dealer take care of it. If something goes wrong they'll be able to offer more assistance(i.e. $$$) than the guy that already charged you twice for something he overlooked. That's how we do it at my place anyway(not that we miss much). Finally, I seriously doubt the evaporator is leaking if it was replaced recently. Good luck

Sorry ILUVMILS, but I have to disagree. Yeah, I'm biased, but I have to say find a competent independent shop. Im sure some people on this forum could recommend a good one.

All I can say is that is one sorry shop if they expect you to pay for the repair a second time. I would pursue this further with the owner of that establishment. A good shop stands behind the work they do.

Hi Brian, why is it that you're biased? The difference between a good shop and a great shop isn't usually apparent until there's a significant amount of money involved. Every independant owner I know or worked for in the past always tried to do the right thing by the client, until the money got serious. The usual solution is that it's the part that's guaranteed, not the labor(unless it was a mistake made during the job). Not a week goes by that I don't hear a horror story from a client who was just trying to save some money on a repair by shopping around. I'd hate to see Albert become a victim this way, so in my professional opinion he should cut his losses and pay the piper, ONCE! I want to make it perfectly clear to all the members of this forum that I have a great deal of respect for independant shop owners and technicians. I'm not trying to put dealers in an exclusive club. However, I think Albert should consider the warranty terms as well as the cost of repairs. As usual, good luck

I have been in this exact situation before and could not have slept at night unless I took care of the problem at no cost to my client. That meant eating the labor and the cost of a new drier.
I ventured out on my own because I was tired of seeing people getting screwed by the dealer and the inexperienced techs working there. If the owner of an independent is not willing to take the bad with the good, he is in the wrong business. I think most of the independents out there (at least the ones on this board) will do whatever it takes to give at the least, better service than the dealer.
I am biased because I am an independent and where as I dont have the fancy waiting room and the huge beautiful building that the dealer does(but I will), I have my name on every job that leaves my building. That means it was done right and if there is a problem, I am going to take care of it.
I understand what you were saying, but I would hate for anyone on this board to think that just because an independent doesnt have the finances and backing of a company like MB that the work is not warranted.I want the big jobs that others are scared of. I will do 140 evaps all day long and challenge anyone to find a screw in the wrong place or a piece of trim not seated right.
I'll get off of my soap box now.
