Mercedes Concedes to Law Suit
It appears that Mercedes has agreed to extend the warranty on certain engines to 10 years and 150K miles as a result of a Class Action lawsuit alledging that Mercedes failed to tell owners they had to use synthetic oil with the FSS system prior to 2001.
Mercedes said they thought they could beat the suit but didn't want to go to the expense of fighting it. As usual, the only ones that will gain from this suit are the lawyers ($7.5 million) since it will probably be a futile exercise trying to prove any engine damage resulted from using Dino oil. http://www.mcall.com/news/yahoo/all-a1_3mercedesaug30.story |

They are giving away one free oil change for owners of 1998 and 1999 models but not 2000 since oil changes were free then. |

My 98 C230 is an early 98MY build. When I took delivery, I questioned the the FSS oil change intervals. "Mercedes ALWAYS knows what they're doing" was the reply. Well, I switched 'er over to Mobil 1 right away, AND continued with much more frequent changes.
And I'm glad I did, 'cause us Canucks sure as heck won't ever get any 150K-mile warranties. No chance of such a lawsuit succeeding here, as we have NO consumer rights or protections, ans civil actions like this one fail immediately.
