97 E320 Dashboard Cracked

In my W210 1997 E320's dashboard, it has began to start cracking from so. cal sun. Checked dealer to fix it and it turns out it is a $799 part plus like 10 hours of labor. I pushed and shoved for some goodwill but nothing. I am deciding to put on a ghetto dashboard carpet. Any reccomendations. This just shows how MB has lost some quality over the years. And I applied MB leather care to it since day 1. My abused 300E workhorse has no dashboard cracks after 13 years and some 200k miles( dont know exact because odometer stopped at 92k) but this E320 only has 37k miles. I need a good quality dashboard carpet that doesnt make me seem like a TJ (short for Tijuana) pimp.

Sun or no Sun, all of the W210 chassis around here have the same problem! Guess MB went back to the 70's for dash material!!

Hmmm...perhaps it was the fact that a leather care product was applied to a vinyl dash? Your dash may look like leather, but unless it's some godawful expensive custom piece, it's plastic

Basically, the dash is an $800 plastic piece?

Talk about rip offs..

Leatherique claims to protect vinyl and leather. Check out the web site at www.Leatherique.com. I have the rejuvinator and the pristine clean but have not had a chance to apply them.
