Dash out again.

Hi All:

Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for a '87 260e? It seems that I am not getting any power to the dash circuit. I need to find which is the hot wire. I am not getting any power to the rheostat.

Does the headlight switch have anything to do with this???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aloha,
Eric

looking at my diagram power comes through the lamp failure monitoring unit straight from the headlamp switch. Source is F1f3 8 amp.

Eric,

There is a multipin plug (14 pins?) that plugs into the back of my car's (87 190e) dash pod. Mine had power to this plug, but not to the rheostat. It turned out that the circuit embeded on the dash pod itself had shorted. Check for that and also the rheostat to make sure its good.

Hi Tinker:

Thanks for the info. The rheostat does work. Checked it out on another car.

Aloha,
Eric

I had a similar problem. It turned out that a former owner bent the metal frame of the dash where the instrument panel plugs into the dash.
The grounds for the instrument pannel were not making contact with the body... thus the instrument lights kept going out.

Solution: Take a pair of waterpump pliers and streighten out the bent metal of the dash.
