Play in Gear Shifter

Often when I put the car in drive the trans does not engage. I have to move the shifter further down toward 3rd gear. How do I tighten up whatever needs to be tightened?

Inpsect the shift link rod bushings underneath the car. There is one at each end of the rod. These dissintegrate over time giving that unwanted extra play in the gear selector.

Yep... the bushings are gone. Looks like a fairly simple job. I'll try disconnecting the rod... pull it out and then insert the bushings.

Will order them from parts shop.

Thanks.
