About a year ago, the SRS light appeared on my 1989 300E. Dealer says need a sensor and a new control unit. Control unit = $1100.00. Is it reasonable that a
sensor and control unit would die at the same time?? I have had another misdiagnosis situation with this dealer and would like to get the SRS fixed but don't really trust the dealer. I live in a state with annual vehicle inspect and am told the SRS needs to work to pass inspection. No other MB dealers for 150 miles so second opinion is difficult. |
On a car of this age, you should be able to take it to a good independent for a second opinion I would think.

The crash sensor is the control unit. What code did they get when the control unit was scanned?

Lots of discussion on this at http://www.mercedes.pair.com/archives/mq.html Just search for srs. Indication here is that often jsut cleaning dirty contacts in steering wheel does the trick.
