What body style is a 1982 380 sel?

The 380 and 420 are similar. Are there exterior parts interchangeable?

That would be a W126. Most parts should be interchangeable amongst all 126's.

Plus the 3.8 liter and 4.2 liter V8's are both M116 engines, so they share the same basic architecture, and possibly fuel injection systems.

Engine codes are:

81 380 SEL - 116.961
82-83 380 SEL - 116.963

86-91 420 SEL - 116.965

Just remember that Mercedes made the w126 chassis in two wheelbase lengths, therefore the rear doors were made in two sizes.

would be a good idea to pull valve cover and see if it's been converted to a double timing chain early 380's had single row chains that had habit of going snap crackle pop.........
