'76 300d alternator problems
just bought a 300d thats been in storage for 10 years. the alternator wasn't charging, but the charge light wasn't on. i put a new alternator on, and i still can't get it to charge! could the new alternator be bad, or am i missing something? any help would be appreciated.

Does that car have an internal voltage regulator or an external one??? Black oval shaped box sticking out the back side of the alternator

Have had the same problem on my '76 280S. Think it was a bad design by Bosh. Finally took it to a private rebuilder and have since never had a problem with it. But am knocking on wood.

problem solved!
FIXED! the rebuilt alternator i bought was bad, believe it or not. i started to think it was a problem with my key switch, since the charge system runs through it, but i tested the signal wire and it had power when the key was turned on, so it had to be the alternator. i'm gettn' good at taking the damn thing out! have to take out the fan and fan shroud to get the thing out!
