300 CD Outside Door Lock

The passenger outside door lock does not lock while using the key on the passenger side but does lock using the key on the driver side. The passenger inside thumb locking lever does not move unless the driver’s side thumb lever is in the locked position, then to both the lock and unlock positions. The driver side thumb lever does actuate the passenger side lock both direction, so the vacuum system working just fine.

So my question is, is there a connection between the key not working and thumb lever not moving independently from the drivers door? Is the thumb levers designed to work this way if not what’s the fix?

Sounds like the connecting rod from the key tumbler to thumb lever is disconnected. Remove interior door panel and check it out.

I am wondering if your 300CD is like the 123 cars I had. The right front door would only lock itself, not the rest of the car.

Isn't that feature where central locking works from every lock only available starting from the W124?

Who can look the locking system up in a 123 owners Manual?

Angry

I followed the directions and the inside panel came off ok. However, the outside handle did not come apart as it should. The locking rod would not come out the door latching mechanism. Being that I am too forceful and tend to break things at times I looked for a release of some sort did not find one. I put the door back together and retreat for more help and advice.

What I did see inside the door with the panel off is there are two connections to the latch, the lock engagement rod and the latch release lever.
