You could be very low on transmission fluid. Check dip stick with engine running. Or possibly your connecting rod bushings are shot if the car will move forward in other forward gears such as 3rd... but will not move when placed in "D".

I try to shift in '3' and the car move. then I switch back to 'D' the car started to move after that. But the gear changing process does not seem to be very smooth after that. It takes long for the gear to change with rpm very high.

Check your transmission fluid level to see if the fluid level is full. Do this after driving the car if possible.

Also check to see if the bushings are worn out at the ends of the connecting rod between the shifter and the shift linkage arm on the transmission. If so replace them.

Check and change the filter in the transmission. It may be cloged and preventing the transmission from shifting.

If you cannot do these things take the car to a transmission shop.
